The Boston Chapter of the National Organization for Women Political Action Committee is pleased to announce its endorsement of Mayor Thomas Menino for a 5th term as Mayor of the City of Boston.

Stacia Weiner, Chair of the Boston NOW PAC, says “Mayor Menino has a history of leadership on all of NOW’s issues—and a history of advocating for the people of the city of Boston.  This is a race with a number of strong progressive candidates—all of whom are impressive in their own right, but none of whom can compete with the work Mayor Menino has done in the past 16 years to make the City of Boston a better place.  Building on an already staggering foundation of accomplishments, we strongly believe that Mayor Menino will continue to move Boston forward and lead us in a positive direction.”

The Boston NOW PAC endorses candidates who are committed to NOW’s mission and priority issue areas, including: reproductive freedom; racial justice; economic justice; Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Rights; and ending violence against women.   In order to receive the support of the Boston NOW PAC, candidates must go through a rigorous endorsement process, including completion of a multi-issue questionnaire and an extensive interview with PAC members.

The Boston NOW PAC works to ensure that women’s rights and other social justice issues are given a voice in local politics. The Boston NOW PAC looks forward to re-electing Mayor Menino and working with him to ensure that Boston remains a city on the forefront of equal rights and social justice issues.

On receiving the Boston NOW PAC endorsement, Mayor Menino said, “The people of Boston are the bedrock of our city, and our neighborhoods have never been more inclusive and diverse.  The Boston NOW PAC has played a tremendous role in the advancement of women’s rights and advocating for progressive social change, and I’m honored to have their support.  Together, we’ll continue our work of making Boston a stronger place for all its residents.”
