Bay Windows announces our endorsements for mayor and City Council
Wednesday, Oct 28, 2009
This year’s endorsement process has been both more rewarding and more difficult than in years past; more rewarding because all of the candidates for elected office on the Boston ballot are, at best, heroes to the LGBT community or at worst, just friends. Not one anti-gay candidate in the mix. And that is precisely why it was so difficult.
We offer you our list of endorsements knowing that you, our readers, care about crime, education, development, taxes, city-services, finances, and a host of other issues important to all Bostonians. Our endorsements, however, are made from the narrow focus of the candidate’s record and thoughts on LGBT issues.
For mayor: Bay Windows endorses Thomas M. Menino. Mayor Menino is without question the most pro-gay mayor in the nation, an accolade he shrugs off remarking that he’s just trying "to do the right thing." Menino’s record on LGBT rights is unblemished, flawless, and without a misstep. When asked what challenges our community faces in the next four years, he easily articulates complex issues from DOMA to DADT to health care and boils them down to local perspectives and action. There is no greater friend to the Boston LGBT community than Mayor Tom Menino, who has also been endorsed by MassEquality.
