Represent thousands of working families in Boston
Service Employees International Union (SEIU)/Local 888 has endorsed Mayor Thomas M. Menino for reelection. The endorsement follows a vote from the union members after a candidates’ forum last week. Mayor Menino spoke with the union’s members, who represent thousands of public employees in Boston, about maintaining the City’s strong financial standing despite state budget cuts, working with unions to improve city services, and providing resources to help working families in Boston.
In endorsing Mayor Menino, Local 888 President Bruce Boccardy said, “The members’ support of Mayor Menino for re-election is a clear statement… that our Local is confident that… he will work with the city’s public employees to protect workers’ rights and the issues that are important to working families”
“Local 888 represents so many hardworking families in Boston, and I’m proud to have their support as we enter the final days of this campaign,” Mayor Menino said. “Many members of the union worked with city government to help preserve jobs by accepting a one-year wage freeze, and I thank them for their sacrifice. Together, we will continue to make city government stronger, more efficient, and more responsive to the needs of the people of Boston.”
SEIU/Local 888 city workers can be found in a wide variety of jobs at City Hall, the Department of Neighborhood Development, the Water and Sewer Commission, the Elderly Commission, the School Department, the Police Department, the Public Health Commission, the Boston Housing Authority, and Boston Centers for Youth & Families.
