Our Mayor, Our Charlestown

Charlestown has long been a great symbol of our nation’s fight for freedom.  Today, Mayor Menino is working with the people of Charlestown to build on the many strengths of the community.

Building off the recent success of the new Charlestown Police Station, the Mayor’s new Charlestown Connects program offers public safety, substance abuse and mental health services for all residents with education, training and new jobs. Following the program’s debut, violence and property crime decreased substantially. 

Mayor Menino’s commitment to improving Charlestown is also evident in the creation of the Charlestown Recovery House, a halfway home for adult men in need of alcohol and drug addiction treatment.

 “Our goal is to make Charlestown a stronger, more vibrant community,” Mayor Menino said. “The people of Charlestown have a tremendous sense of community. Moving forward, let’s take that sense of community and expand it so the great people and organizations who work here are all working together.”
